Urban Mobility Innovation Startup: A Way to A Smarter Future
January 14, 2025As the new 2025 year has already come, we’re glad to start a new chapter in our blog, telling you about the latest startups. This time, we’d like to tell you about how a Latvian startup leads the way in urban mobility innovation. This startup brings green and digital transformations through innovative initiatives.
From electric cargo scooters to data-driven public transport improvements, the country is creating a sustainable future by connecting research with real-world applications.
Last-Mile Logistics in Riga
Riga, a key city in the EIT Urban Mobility community, is working on new ways to improve transport. One example is the GreenDash project, where Riga City Council and Latvian Post are testing Bruntor’s electric cargo scooters. With the help of these scooters, parcel deliveries are getting greener and cheaper. Although there’s a need for some regulations to be changed, this project is all about micromobility transforming cities and devilry.
Better Public Transport in Jurmala
Meanwhile, Jurmala has unique transport needs due to its long layout. The city is using data to plan better bus routes and is also testing ideas like autonomous shuttles. At the same time, autonomous shuttles can play a significant role in city transportation as they can replace empty buses. Nowadays, residents have the possibility to try out new ways of traveling around the city for free. This step underlines the importance of such innovations for public transport.
Working Together at the Smart Cities Conference
The Smart Cities Conference, organized by Riga Technical University and its partners, showcased real developments that are taking place in urban mobility. Things that were discussed here play a big role in public transport innovations and mobility. Startups had a chance to showcase their ideas and prototypes like autonomous vehicles and urban air mobility, and some other startup presentations. Events like this make you believe that a better and greener future is almost here. At IGF, we’re eager to watch such startups develop and come to life.
Tackling Challenges
While Latvia is doing very well, some of the challenges that need attention include funding and procurement rules. Events like the Smart Move Hackathon, organized by the Transport and Telecommunication Institute, help the youth come up with innovative solutions for such challenges.
At IGF, we believe that startups are leading the way to a better future. Bright ideas, interesting projects – it’s all about IGF. We bring startups and investors together, helping them to create something new and fresh. Contact us to get a professional consultation.
